
Avraham Shira was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, where he received a B.A. in English at the University of Central Florida. He set out on a life transforming journey, criss-crossing America, living out of a van, doing odd jobs, interviewing hitchhikers and writing poetry. His explicit belief and purpose was that one could find God in the words of human experience.
In Los Angeles, he found the study of Kabbalah, and the teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. He became a religious Jew, migrated to Jerusalem and joined the Kabbalist Yeshiva, Nahar Shalom. He has been studying and teaching there since 1993. He has also taught
at the Berot Bat Ayin Women’s Seminary for 21 years, and WebYeshiva.org, Lighthouse Torah Project, Insight Timer, specializing in Kabbalistic meditation, Likutei Moharan, and spiritual creative writing.
Rabbi Shira received a Masters Degree in Sociology from the University of North Texas specializing in Family Therapy. In addition to his teaching and tutoring, he is also a practicing therapist, founder of M.E.R.G.E.--The Male Energy Recovery Group Experience, a published author, and is now in the process of completing two new works, ‘The Path of Personal Prophecy: Hearing Your Inner Voice’ and ‘The Universal Hologram’.
Rav Shira lives with his wife, Elisheva and their children in Bat Ayin, Israel.
